Guess who just got a new camera??

I was lucky enough to stumble across a Canon 5D Mark II in stock! Now if I can just find some batteries for it. They're all back-ordered. Boo!

I actually tried this camera out at WPPI and I fell in love! It is SWEET!! I cannot wait to get it in my hot little hands and make magic with it. I've been using the Canon 40D for the past year and I still love it but the new Canon 5D Mark II is going to open up a world of new possibilities for me as a shooter.

I also got a 15mm Fisheye lens to put on this bad boy and I battled between the 24-70 2.8 and the 24-105 4.0 IS. I finally chose the 24-105 because there have been times when I was using my 17-55 that I really wished I had a little more reach and also I think I really do need the IS unit during low light when people are moving at receptions.

The 5D Mark II will be beautiful in low light anyway so the 4.0 shouldn't matter too much.

Come on Canon and come out with the 24-70 2.8 IS and the 24-105 2.8 IS ! Get with it! :-)

OKay, for any brides reading this, I am so sorry about the technical jargon. So here's what you need to know if you're lost at this point:

My images are just going to keep getting better :-)

WPPI in Las Vegas

WPPI was so amazing. I am just now getting settled back into my daily groove. I didn't really have a lot of fun while I was in Vegas because both Latanya and myself got really sick. The air was so dry there so we both had bloody noses which wasn't fun at all! But for the most part, we learned a ton!

My two day plus class with Yervant was out of this world, amazing. I learned so much. He didn't hold back at all and he answered every question and even went in depth to show us how he achieves his award winning imagery.

We did make it to see Zumanity at the New York, New York hotel and out of 5 stars, I'd give it a solid 5. We chose seats that were on the side so we could be really close to the stage. I do wish we had chosen seats in the middle even if they were a couple of rows back because my neck was killing me from looking off to the right the whole night. But, other than that.. amazing! There is this part that takes place in this bowl of water that was to die for and had me on the edge of my seat wondering if the performers were going to hurt themselves. It was definitely worth the cost and our time. Warning: This show is not for children nor is it for people who are more conservatist. But for anyone who is very open minded, this show rocks!

A couple of other highlights were some platform classes. My favorites by a mile were Parker Pfister and David Beckstead. They both kept me awake and kept my interest and I feel like I actually learned a lot from both of them. My other favorite was Eddie Tapp. He didn't really "speak". He really just went through photoshop techniques in a speedy fashion but I learned a ton. He does this thing called "cookie light". I tried it last night on one image and it's pretty darn cool.

I also did a shoot at the Neon Graveyard with a las vegas showgirl and a bride and groom model as well as a real bride and also an amazing goth couple. It was a blast. Photos coming soon!

And lastly, on the first night I was there, I did three amazing boudoir sessions. Two were for real brides and one was for a model. I just posted some the other day and more to come soon!

Until next time.....

Oh La La La La..... Layla - Boudoir Pics!

Layla was a photographers dream come true. She isn't a model folks, I promise. But she knew her angles and her facial expressions were dynamic. She had such a range of expressions which made it impossible not to get amazing pictures of her. I just wish that she lived locally instead of in Las Vegas so I could shoot her over and over again.

I give to you... the beautiful... the sexy... Layla!!

Miss Jaime (Boudoir - not work appropriate)

Jaime was such a blast to be around. She was down for anything we wanted her to do and shooting her was so much fun. She has this great pouty look that worked so well for these intimate, sexy photos of her. Hope you enjoy!

Las Vegas & WPPI

I am getting everything in order around the house and with the business so that I can prepare for WPPI in Las Vegas, Nevada. For those of you who don't know, WPPI stands for Wedding and Portrait Photographers International and is the biggest annual photography convention.

We will be staying at the host hotel which is the MGM Grand, Las Vegas. We are flying in on Southwest Airlines February 11th and will remain there until February 19th, when we fly back home.

On February 12th and 13th, I am attending a Plus Class with the most amazing wedding photographer in the entire world, Yervant ! Hands down, this man is amazing in every sense of the way. I have seen him speak at prior conventions and he just has a way of making other people smile. He lives in Australia and has photographed some of the most amazing weddings at locations I would die to shoot at one day. His technical abilities are amazing and he is what I would call, "The Tiger Woods of Golf... err... Photography...". Plain and simple.

On February 14th, I will be attending the Business Institute which will be great. I am already pretty business savvy, but the moment you think you know everything is the moment you stop growing. If I learn just one thing that takes my business to the next level, then it was worth being there.

On the evening of February 14th, we will be going to the New York, New York hotel and casino to watch the cirque du soleil performance, Zumanity. I have been to other cirque shows and this one just seemed fitting for Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, no cameras are allowed inside so I won't be able to post any photos but I'll be sure to review my experience with this show!

February 15th-18th will be filled with trade shows and platform classes. Platform classes are where some of the best wedding and portrait photographers spend about 2 hours talking on a subject they feel is relative for the convention. Some photographers even do live demonstrations on editing and photoshop techniques. Some do live demonstrations on how they pose clients or how they light their subjects using video lights, strobes, etc. There's always some great gems of information to pick up on during these seminars.

I plan to attend some amazing seminars and listen to these remarkable speakers. Some of the best speakers are planned during the same time slot so I am going to have my assistant photographer, Latanya with me and she'll go to the other one. Just to name a few that we plan to attend.... Jim Garner, David Jay, JB & Deette Salle, Marcus Bell, Ryan Schembri, Joe Buissink, Corey McNabb, Bambi Cantrell, Cliff Mautner, Jeffrey and Julia Woods, Parker Pfister, Jerry Ghionis, David Beckstead and Gene Higa.

If you don't already know who these people are, trust me when I say they are the cream of the crop and they'll all be under one roof giving tidbits of information to help the rest of us learn and grow as photographers. Everyone has their local wedding photographer that is well sought after. But, these guys are sought after worldwide and have made a name for themselves through branding and style fused together with amazing imagery. Many have been named in the Top 10 wedding photographers in the world. I feel so fortunate to be able to go out there this year and take my work and my company even to that next level.

I am going to take a break in the afternoon on the 17th of February and meet up with 20-30 other photographers at the famous Las Vegas Neon Graveyard/ Neon Boneyard. We have models and real brides and grooms who are coming out and we're going to get some amazing photos of them with all the retired signs. I cannot wait for this photoshoot. It's going to be amazing. This is a place I've always wanted to shoot at and now, I will be! I'd like to thank Emma of LiveLoveLaugh Photography in Seattle Washington for putting this together for everyone and making it possible. I can't wait to rock it out with you guys!

Okay, well I guess that's enough name plugging for now.. :-).... I cannot wait to share the photographs with you guys from this amazing event!

Albums!

I FINALLY have made a sample album for myself! Between editing photos and creating albums for clients and dealing with contracts, etc.. I haven't had time to make one for myself much less to work on this blog. But, I have some VERY exciting things coming up in the near future and I want to get better at this blog thing!

So, this is Julia and Keenan. This layout is for a 40 page/side 9.5x13 GraphiStudio Flushmount Album. This album is going to be so gorgeous! I can't wait to get it in my hands. Finally, I'll be able to show my work during client consultations and give them the experience of being able to touch and feel the books with my own work in them!

These are 2 page/side spreads so each layout is for 2 pages. When the book is opened, this is the way it will appear across both pages. Opened, this book is 9.5x26!!!!
